The Schools, nurseries, childrens centres and other partners in
Longbridge are all part of an extended schools cluster.
What is an extended school?
An extended school works with the local authority,
local partners and other schools to provide access to
services:
- a varied range of activities including sport and music clubs.
- activities for parents about parenting skills and their own
learning
- access to specialist service
- community access to facilities including all kinds of family
learning,
ICT and sports grounds.
These will often be provided beyond the school day but not
necessarily by teachers or on the school site.
The local schools in Longbridge are working closely together with a
coordinator to help make sure that the things that people need locally
actually happen.
What will be the result of all this?
- Parents will have greater choice, flexibility, convenience and
be able to balance family and work commitments.
- The 8am-6pm offer allows greater flexibility for full or
part-time employment.
- The evidence shows that children do better at school and that
schools serve their local community needs better.
